Monitoring, Reviewing, and Improving Behaviour Support Plans
One of the most important aspects of a Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is its ongoing monitoring and review.
Why Is Monitoring Important?
Behaviour Support Plans aren’t set-and-forget documents. They are dynamic tools that must be monitored to ensure they are effective. Monitoring includes:
Tracking behavioural changes.
Assessing quality of life improvements.
Ensuring the strategies are working as intended.
Regular Reviews
Behaviour Support Plans must be reviewed regularly (at least every 12 months) or sooner if needed. This is to:
Adjust strategies that aren’t working.
Update the plan as the person’s needs or circumstances change.
Gradually reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices.
Reviews are a collaborative process involving the participant, their family, and their support team. This ensures the plan stays relevant and effective.
Next time, we’ll discuss the rights and protections in place for participants under the NDIS.
